Workshop: Moving Bodies / Dancing Lives

Monday, July 29 | 10:30am-12:00pm

Attack Theatre Studios

Moving Bodies/Dancing Lives welcomes seasoned dancers and newcomers alike to delve into embodied explorations through movement, honoring diverse backgrounds and physical interpretations. Drawing from dance, theater, Gaga, and somatics, participants engage in guided improvisation and game-like structures to foster self-awareness and connect with fellow movers. The approach is playful and deliberate, involving moments of moving together and in small groups. From slow, meditative gestures to dynamic, full-bodied expressions, we ground through breathing and stretching, activate the voice, groove, rest, reflect, shake, and ignite creativity. While moving, we are invited to embrace joy, grief, whimsy, intention, curiosity, fear, awkwardness, and awe. We sink into the weight of our flesh while accessing lightness in our bones, and tune into internal impulses while sensing the horizon beyond the room. These practices aim to support navigating complexity and growing our capacity to connect with our embodied experience in our dancing and our broader lives. Please wear clothing comfortable for moving and bring a water bottle and journal. Ages 16+. Learn more about the practices from which the facilitator draws here.
